Ich habe hier schon lange nichts mehr gebloggt, u.a. weil ich vielen andere Baustellen hatte, aber auch, weil ich seit einigen Wochen nun hier auf Englisch blogge. Trotzdem will ich kurz auf einen Workshop hinweisen, den ich gemeinsam mit Fridolin Wild (WU Wien) und Matthias Palmer (University of Upsala, Sweden) im Rahmen der diesjährigen ECTEL08 organisiere:
A change in perspective can be certified in the recent years to technology-enhanced learning research and development: More and more learning applications on the web are putting the learner centre stage, not the organisation. They empower learners with capabilities to customize and even construct their own personal learning environments (PLEs).
These PLEs typically consist of distributed web-applications and services that support system-spanning collaborative and individual learning activities in formal as well as informal settings.
Technologically speaking, this shift manifests in a learning web where information is distributed across sites and activities can easily encompass the use of a greater number of pages and services offered through web-based learning applications. Mash-ups, the ‘frankensteining’ of software artefacts and data, have emerged to be the software development approach for these long-tail and perpetual-beta niche markets. Core technologies facilitating this paradigm shift are Ajax, javascript-based widget-collections, and microformats that help to glue together public web APIs in individual applications.
In a wide range of European IST-funded research projects such as iCamp, LTfLL, LUISA, Palette, Prolix, and TENcompetence a rising passion for these technologies can be identified.
This workshop therefore serves as a forum to bring together researchers and developers from these projects and an open public that have an interest in understanding and engineering mash-up personal learning environments (MUPPLEs).

Ehrlich gesagt, habe ich nie so ganz verstanden, in weit reine Handlungsinformationen für andere Personen interessant sind. Aber eventuell gleicht Twitter ja ein wenig die Probleme aus, die im Rahmen eines dispersen Publikums auftreten. Irgendwie passt der Begriff "Publikum" im Zuge der Social-Web-Applikationen nicht mehr so ganz, vielleicht sollte man daher eher von "dispersen Prosumern" reden.

In der letzten Woche habe ich mich gemeinsam mit Moritz Stefaner und Marcus Specht um eine neue Version der Webseite zur EC-TEL08-Konferenz bemüht, die wir in diesem Jahr in Maastricht ausrichten. Traurig aber wahr: B*board gewinnt den Patentstreit gegen den kanadischen LMS-Provider Desire2Learn:
Earlier today the jury handed down its verdict that the patent is valid and that Blackboard should be awarded damages of approximately $3 million.
As you know, Blackboard filed a patent infringement suit against Desire2Learn on July 26, 2006. Blackboard claimed that Desire2Learn was infringing all 44 claims of patent number 6,988,138. Last summer, the Court eliminated the first 35 claims of the suit.
From the time we were first served with the suit we committed to you, our valued clients, as well as to the educational community at large, that we would defend ourselves vigorously in this matter. From the outset of this case we knew that we had an obligation to stand up against Blackboard and that our actions in doing so would be in the best interest of the entire educational community.

With your support and that of the entire educational community, we were able to present a strong case. While we are disappointed that the jury did not agree with our position, we will continue to challenge the patent's validity and Blackboard's charges of infringement. We are currently evaluating our next steps.
Ich bin sehr gespannt, welche Folgen dieser Erfolg für den LMS-Markt haben wird. Zwar steht die Entscheidung des US Patentamtes zur generellen Gültigkeit des Pantents noch aus, jedoch kann diese Entscheidung noch lange auf sich warten.
Die Online-Dienste von Google bewegen eine immer größer werdende Nutzermenge dazu, ihre Dokumente (gemeinsam) online zu erstellen. Jedoch gibt es in letzter Zeit eine immer größer werdende Gruppe von Nutzern, die zunehmend kritisch mit der "Datenkrake" Google umgeht. Für diese Gruppe könnte das neue Angebot von Ulteo interessant sein:
Ulteo hat die gesamte OpenOffice-Suite in den Browser portiert, so dass man über das Internet Dokumente erstellen kann. Laut diesem Review ist es auch möglich, gemeinsam mit anderen Nutzern an einem Dokument zu arbeiten.
Vor einigen Wochen hat der European Research Council seine Guidelines hinsichtlich Open Access von Forschungsergebnissen veröffentlicht. Darin wird vorgesehen, dass Wissenschaftler, die vom ERC gefördert werden, ihre Publikationen und auch ihre Daten innerhalb einer Frist von 6 Monaten in einem Repositorium publizieren. Das OLCOS-Projekt, das Ende letzten Jahres ausgelaufen ist, hat 6 Tutorials zum Thema Open Access und Open Content veröffentlicht, die sowohl für Neulinge in dem Thema als auch für Lehrende ein guter Ansatzpunkt sein können. Die Tutorials liegen in drei Sprachen vor und sind - so wie es sicht für ein Projekt zum Thema Open Content gehört - auf einer Open Content Plattform verfügbar.
Erfreulicherweise wird der Content der Tutorials direkt in einem neuen Projekt wiederverwendet, denn das Center for Open and Sustainable Learning unter Leitung von David Wiley integriert diese in ein OER (Open Educational Resources) Handbuch.
Die Knowledgeboard-Community hat im letzten Jahr ihr zweites Buch publiziert, das mir erst vor kurzem aufgefallen ist. In dem Buch werden 30 verschiedene Methoden für diverse Online- und Offline-Gruppenprozesse vorgestellt. Die einzelnen Methoden folgen alle der gleichen Struktur und bieten eine Fundgrube, um im nächsten Seminar oder dem nächsten Workshop einmal etwas Neues auszuprobieren:
Hands-On Knowledge Co-Creation and Sharing: Practical Methods and Techniques” presents thirty hands-on moderation, facilitation, collaboration, and interaction methods and techniques, both face-to-face and software-based. Gemeinsam mit Salzburgresearch organisiere ich die 4. Edumedia Konferenz zum Thema "Selbstorganisiertes Lernen im interaktiven Web - Lernkultur im Wandel?" am 2. & 3. Juni in Salzburg. Während der Konferenz "Networks, Communities & Learning: Show that you share!", die im Rahmen des EU-Projektes Bazaar am 14. 12. in Utrecht organisiert wird, werde ich einen Track zum Thema "Entwicklung offener Bildungsressourcen" betreuen.
The major aim of the conference is to promote dialogue and exchange between 'experts', researchers, developers, practitioners and learners. We are particularly keen that learners and junior researchers are given an opportunity to discuss and exchange their ideas. We aim that the content of the sessions is driven and created by the participants rather than
the traditional 'presentation and five minutes questions' format with content determined in advance by a single organiser, or a small group of organisers.
Das ganze wird in einem sehr offenen Format stattfinden und ich bin sehr gespannt, was dort passieren wird. November findet eine freie Online-Konferenz zum Thema " What is Corporate Learning: Trends and Innovations?" statt, an der auch einige interessante Namen aus der E-Learning-Szene teilnehmen wie z.B. Jay Cross, George Siemens und David Snowden.

2. Development or adaptation of (an) existing service(s) to extend the use and application of of the TENCompetence services - including both ‘software services’ and customer services;
3. Design and development of a business model to supply one or more TENCompetence services.
Je nach Proposal gibt es Fördermittel zwischen 2500 und 25 000 EUR. Weitere Informationen gibt es auf dieser Seite. Sollten deutschsprachige KMU hier noch besondere inhaltliche Fragen zum Projekt haben, bin ich gerne bereit, diese zu beantworten.
